If you're a fan of Pokemon fan-games, or if you're a game dev'er yourself, or if you're bran new to the scene, this forum is perfect for you!
The site is a great little community full of people waiting to help you out and make new friends. Everyone here is great, if you've got a game you're thinking of making the community will give you great advice on what you're working on. If you've got a beta of a game you've been working on, the community will try it out and get back to you with feedback. If you've got a a thing for playing games, we've got some great ones and plenty of ones being planned - not to mention it's current event. A GAME JAM! What more could you ask for? Maybe random discussions? Yeah it's got that. What about small forum games? It's got those too. Maybe a Fakemon thread where people add to a simple design and expand it into a fakemon that was created by a group of people, no way it has that right? Too bad, because it does.

So what are you doing? Why aren't you checking it out right now? Why are you still reading this? Get on!

For those of you who are unaware, on the PokemonCommunity fourms, we are hosting a Game Jam. A Game Jam is an event where participants have a limited timeframe to make a small game. We aren't asking anyone to make a full game, but rather a mini game with a specific focus, in this case it is focused on a legendary encounter. Participants, on the day the event starts, will be assigned a random legendary for their mini game, and you will have the weekend to work on it. The legendary encounter does not need to follow the official game's strictly or at all; but it must make sense in the context you have created.

The event will start from
Friday, June 19th until Monday the 22nd. The Legendaries will be official ones that are announced as lore, ie, no Volcanion. Also, you have the option of opting out of using the Gen 6 legendaries due to lack of sufficient resources.

The judging will be based as follows:
Judging
Storyline
- What's going on? Are the players invested in the adventure as it unfolds?
Setting - Where is the player? If there is a puzzle in the adventure, how engaging is it?
Challenge - Same criteria as the previous game jams; does it feel satisfying to win, or is the adventure just a cakewalk?
Mapping - This primarily lends itself to a mix of the previous three categories. How do your map layouts lend themselves to the game you've made? Does the player grumble about expansive hallways or bland, uniform rooms? Or does the map itself hint at the story you're telling?

Rules
  • Participants may sign up by posting in this thread any time before Midnight (Pacific Time) on the night of Thursday, June 18th!
  • Competitive Entries MUST use at least their assigned Pokemon.
  • If you're a Judge, you cannot also be a participant in the Jam's competitive aspects.
  • Participants are allowed to use any tilesets, engines, and official or fanmade Pokemon that they wish.
  • Participants may set the player's team of Pokemon to whatever they wish, provided that the story can be completed with that team.
  • Participants have until Midnight on the night of Monday, June 22nd to submit their final entry to be judged.
  • If a game is unplayable due to a glitch or consistently crashes, the participant will be given 24 hour notice to resubmit.
The rules go into more depth on the thread, but this is a general rundown, also, you must use the assigned legendary - while this doesn't have to be the only one you use, the goal is to showcase the assigned legendary.

Beta Testers?

1 min read
The beta release is a whiles away, but good news, my game isn't dead yet!
I just haven't had a lot of time to work on it lately.

However, since the previous beta is so old, and I haven't had anything new since then, I wanted to make this one as perfect as possible.
So, I am recruiting beta testers to play the game as much and as far as they can, and give feedback where they can, alert me of any and all bugs, and give me ideas on where they would like to see improvement or if something should be changed.
I don't want people to just play it and say "Wow that was really cool!" or something like that, I would really like people to say why they liked it, what they thought was done well, what they thought wasn't effective or was unclear, etc. I'll accept some where around 10 people or so, possibly more.

Shoot me a note or comment or contact me if you're interested.

Wow, it's been a long time, and I've been pretty distant from Pokemon recently, but I have a lot of cool ideas that are going to happen.
Soooo much, so just stop playing 4.1, cuz 4.2 is coming your way like a blaze of glory. It really should be V5, but I can't bring myself to continue on past the end of the mtn, but with all of the massive changes to the first arc, I don't think it'll be a problem.

Currently there are just around 80 different trainer classes; with roughly 40 actually different ones (as the other 40 are separate male/female differences). With a grandiose total of just over 130 planned total trainers (the others past 80 are non-counted important trainers such as gym leaders, rivals, and other recurring or important trainers, and as I progress more and more trainers will be added.

At the moment the starters aren't complete, but I plan on finishing them in time. As for what's to come, the game will be postponed until the following requirments are met for the V4.2 release:

All (necessary/all) trainers finished (by that I mean their designs - most of which are tweaks or custom)
The starters (which are the kalos starters), the Goomy line, Pancham line, Honedge line, and Sylveon
● Revamp of the pre-gym
● Finished Pokegear overhaul
● Total beginning overhaul
● Slight current V4.1 gameplay tweakage (I mean, for example, influence of the rival, progression from town to town and your purpose for doing so, etc)
● Pokemon balancing (total overhaul of Base stats, moves, levels, evolutions, typing, etc)
● Pokemon sprites (only the best ones according to me)
● Better music (making it so the music is all the same style it should be, and changed so you can play, and not have to worry bout volume, as it will all be the same  - all pleasing to the ears and not all different, causing you to change volume in every area, or mute it due to how bad it is)
● Maybe outfits if I feel like it, but it's not as big a priority for this demo since most of the ones I like are finished and most you ont encounter in this demo.
● And Pokemon back sprites

I may release the game with "enough" done even if I haven't finished, meaning, for example, if I don't finish all the pokemon balancing, but I finish it for only the pokemon you encounter in the demo, I'll still release it.

To finish, I'm having trouble deciding on what style the pokemon backsprites should be - I could make them all gen 5 style (in the sense that they are 2x bigger than the opponent but are very literal mirrors+back renditions of the front sprite), or gen 4 (meaning they have the same pixel dimension, but are styled to be bigger).

Let me know what you think, cheers!

Just wanted to say it's amusing that, if one is watching a dub by Funimation, the main character is almost always Ichigo. If this is true, then there is a fairly good chance his best friend is Ben Tennyson.
